Even though Valentine’s Day was a couple of weeks ago, I thought I would share what the boys made for their classes. This was a multi step, multi day project, which was nice, but required some planning. We first spent time collecting smooth, flatish rocks from our local beach. Continue reading

Apple-Print Thank You Cards
My goodness, this last month (two months really) has been extremely busy. We have had birthday parties, hosted Arthur’s birthday, baby showers, bachelorette parties, and hosted my sister’s bridal shower. Those were just some of the events occupying our weekends. Continue reading
Photography with kids
My geeky self so wishes one of my kids will grow up to be a paleontologist or a geologist. I love the idea of wearing a shirt that says, “My kid digs rocks”. However, if they decide to live out one of my other wishes, to become a National Geographic photographer, I would be just as excited. Continue reading
Paper Mache Jellyfish
Back when I was teaching elementary science and art, I was constantly trying to find ways to integrate my curriculums. When I studied habitats with the K’s and 1st graders, the jellyfish quickly became a favorite project among the students. Continue reading
Rainbow Sorting Boxes
This project is really the first part of a two part project I have been thinking about. For a while now I have been wanting to make some rainbow sorting bowls for the kids. Continue reading
Animal Canvases For Father’s Day
With Father’s Day past, I can now show how we spent another busy day(s) making gifts. I had some grand plans for a much larger project (which I will explain later), however, we just plain ran out of time! The first step was to repeat our successful animal stencil project (remember how I mentioned I had plans for something else- well this is it!). Since we had already experimented with watercolors and the dot markers, I knew that the dot markers was the way I wanted to go with this one. Continue reading
Stencil Art
I have had a project in mind, but first needed to see how to best go about making some colorful animals. A little while back, I saw this wonderful post on Grow Creative on how to use watercolors and stencils. I thought her products were so beautiful I wanted to try it out too. Now, I wasn’t sure how it would go with the boys, so I tried two different medias: watercolors and Do a Dot markers. Continue reading
Painting Flower Pots and Planting Jade
Today was Arthur’s last day of the school year. As he said goodbye I don’t think he really grasped that he wasn’t going to see his teachers again for a while. As his teachers got teary eyed saying goodbye to him, I had to try hard not to lose it. Why? Continue reading
Printmaking with Cars and Toys
This morning was a morning. The boys still had lingering coughs so we skipped our usual Wednesday morning playgroup. So, with it raining, once again, we had a day indoors. We played with legos, we built forts, we washed the windows, had snack, we raced cars, we played with play dough, we worked on patterns…and that got me thinking. Wheel patterns, toy patterns – lets paint, lets do some printmaking. While the boys constructed a raceway out of blocks, I set up… Continue reading
Tissue Paper Bird Canvas
Since our tissue paper bird cards (which you can find how to make here) went well, it was time to try it out on the small canvases I bought. Continue reading
