We have been taking many nature walks this Autumn. Some are with the whole family, some are with me and the boys, and some special ones for just George and me while Arthur’s curiosity and wonder is being fueled by school.

My goodness, this last month (two months really) has been extremely busy. We have had birthday parties, hosted Arthur’s birthday, baby showers, bachelorette parties, and hosted my sister’s bridal shower. Those were just some of the events occupying our weekends.

The summer has been full of activities. Many times, we left the house as the sun was waking and returned home at dinner tired from the suns rays after a day of exploring, swimming, and running.

Summer Nature Walk

Those of you who remember our Looking for Spring nature walk, know how much we love exploring at the New Canaan Nature Center. It is one of our ‘goto’ places when the weather is warm, or cold, and if we need to fill a couple of hours or even just 1/2 of one. We love it. So, this morning since the weather was delightful and Arthur had been requesting a walk at the Nature Center, off we went to look for signs of Summer.

Back when I was teaching elementary science and art, I was constantly trying to find ways to integrate my curriculums. When I studied habitats with the K’s and 1st graders, the jellyfish quickly became a favorite project among the students.

Blueberry Picking and Planting

The weather has been wonderful lately. Warm with a very welcomed low humidity. Because of this, I feel we have been outside as soon as the sun comes up and running around until it is time for dinner. Yesterday, we took advantage of this glorious weather and spent the first part of the morning blueberry picking.

Sorting Shells

With the weather turning warmer, we have been venturing to one of our favorite destinations for play and exploration: the beach. Over the past couple trips we have collected some shells, rocks, seaweed, rock snails, and crabs. We got to build sand castles and we, and I really mean Arthur here, got to release some energy and romp around  in the waves during high tide…

So, for a while now I have been wanting to make bird seed ornaments with the boys. I had seen a few ‘recipes’ on how to do so- many very different from each other. Some had flour, some didn’t. Some required baking, some didn’t. So, I thought I would try to morph a few of the technique.
